Quantum Gravity - Outline

Slide 36

Note
Last time, I talked about ideas from relativity, quantum theory, and cosmology that are important components of a quantum theory of gravity. I also talked about Smolin's first road, which is investigations into the thermodynamics of black holes. This time, I'll talk about the theory of loop quantum gravity and string theories. I'll briefly mention a few other approaches. Then I'll move on to talk about where we go from what has been learned so far. I'll discuss the holographic principle, which is the first concept thought to only make sense in the context of a quantum theory of gravity, and I'll talk about attempts to create a theory of quantum gravity that addresses the shortcomings of our current theories. Lastly, I'll wrap everything up with a few conclusions.
